Once clarified to expose a lot of the theatrical tales being spun about the Treaty, it was accepted by the Irish people and their decision has been vindicated in the years since. None of the predictions made by the likes of Sinn Fein in opposition to the Treaty ever came true and the second referendum came with additional guarantees regarding abortion, neutrality, workers' rights and tax.

    Essentially -- the main misgivings people had about the Treaty were addressed. It wasn't just a re-run of the same referendum on the same information.

    This is a fight between the establishment with its power to create false impressions and the people's right of democracy.One vote one person.
