Rent controls have not worked - anywhere. As the Swedish economist (and socialist) Assar Lindbeck asserted,

“In many cases rent control appears to be the most efficient technique presently known to destroy a city—except for bombing.”

Heaven help us if Labour do get in - Marxists , like Corbyn, seem not to think as most of us think i.e. ‘Life is what you make it, work is where you look for it, nobody owes us a living, wealthy people are not automatically bad and similarly, poor people are not automatically good , they are just people!

What some Marxists can’t grasp, is that wealth is not always inherited or falls into people’s laps, a lot of it comes from bl00dy hard work, and it is a fallacy that employers exploit the workers per se ( some dinosaurs may act this way I accept ) .’

I really can’t find a country, or government where Marxism/ socialism has worked better than capitalism- Countries which have a socialist government, but a mixed or capitalist economy didn't count in this search?

A country ‘s income has to come from somewhere, and encouraging the wealth creators i.e. Capitalists , is the best way forward for any country.

So, rather than kick them in the ‘profit’ area, we should encourage wealth creators , who in turn will create jobs, and therefore provide higher tax revenues ( and lower government benefit payments ) - so what if some Capitalists get rich, a small price to pay , to enable the whole country to benefit from their taxes I.e we all share in their wealth already, without ( nationalising ) stealing their business.

Criticise, ostracise, humiliate, insult, chase the wealth creators away, and see how far the 'socialist ' project gets?

Capitalism is not a problem, for a Country, it is a solution , without which there would be nothing to pay for the Marxists / socialist dreams, and most Marxists know this !

Corbyn’s policies are designed to attract the naive, as an example his fairer society means 'taking money from one set of workers & giving it to another set, where is the fairness In that, because he and his sidekick are threatening to take from people on the higher rate of tax i.e. 45001 income, as earned by a senior teacher or senior nurse or a Police Sergeant say, all of whom have probably worked their socks off to get to those positions?

How many years of study & long unsociable hours did it take thousands of hospital doctors to get to this pay level ?

What about the self employed who may also have worked all of the hours God made to get their business off the ground, and maybe now employ a couple of people - evil rich ba5tard5!

As a matter of political policy, jealously taking money from those who have legitimately & honestly earned it, to give to others who have not, is not only reprehensible, but counter productive and those who advocate it need a visit to Specsavers to cure their short sightedness.

Two guys sitting in the sun having their sarnies, when their boss turns up in a new Rolls Royce. One guy says 'look at the fat git , I'm going to go over & key that car- fat Tory git'!

The other guy says 'wow look at that car, I'm gonna put in a bunch of work and overtime and save enough to get me one of those'.

Guess which one will be paying for ' the fairer society', and guess which one will be supporting Mr Corbyn & co

The only way to pay for a ' fairer society ' is to encourage people to work to achieve their dreams, not 'fine' them for doing so!

Slightly off topic, but of course, you are right. I have met very few actual socialists in my life, and probably because there aren't that many. Of course, there is a generation coming through that doesn't realise socialism is nothing more than an ideal, and may actually believe it is a workable practice. Scary but true. I believe that most socialist are lazy. They hate the idea of having to work hard to achieve a better life, and think it is their right to have as much as the guy who owns the company they work for. They think it is right and proper that those who have worked hard enough to earn a high wage should pay an enormous tax so those who are either thick or lazy can have a similar life style. In short, that's how socialism works. Regrettably there is a dark side to capitalism, and even I believe that the gap between rich and poor is to great, and perhaps it should be carefully addressed. The type of Britain Corbyn wants to see is very scary, but I believe there are enough voters in the UK to prevent his madness. Well I hope so anyway.
Keep Britain British, whoops, it's too late

The socialist idea in principle is ok.....Those that can help those that can’t.

The problem is distinguishing between those that can’t and those that won’t or don’t.

Capitalism is the ONLY system that works, the problem is it doesn’t fit with all the tree hugging lefties.
Don't let the *******s grind you down.

Strange how unemployment plummeted when they had to wait 6 weeks for Universal Credit. That alone shows how many were swinging the lead.

Perhaps they gave up or committed suicide.
those princes have accomplished most who paid little heed to keeping their promises, but who knew how to manipulate the minds of men craftily.

In far too many cases you are unfortunately right about suicide. It is also unfortunate that some people on this forum, (not you,) are VERY offensive because they despite evidence given them continue to talk out of their fundamental orifice because they know zero of benefits or how they are administered. Unemployment plummeted because around 1/2 a million people have disappeared out of the benefits system completely and are not in work and the DWP cannot give any explanation for it or where they are.
