    Military Cross

Leaving aside the obvious pun, isn’t the Military Cross an extreme irony...?

Is this designed to wind up anyone in particular?
The new parliamentary democracy,it's not the will of the people that counts but the will of 650......will come back to haunt them.

Is there no Black Heroes on Discovery channel tonight Pat?

Usually, an officer awarded the MC had to have done something extraordinary. Other than be able to write perfect English prose or drive an MG Sport. That was in the 1930s, of course, before BMWs or non Oxbridge Educations became status symbols for in-extraordinary people like you.

I don’t doubt or question the achievements that lead to recognising extraordinary acts of heroism. But I do find the amalgamation of Military + Cross (ie, linking the symbol of Christian values with warfare) incongruous. What was wrong with the name of its predecessor, the Military Medal?

As an aside —your reference to “an officer” is noted. Why should the degree of heroism be judged by rank...?

The Military Medal still exists and was constituted in WW1 and is the equivalent decoration for other ranks, know a recipient now deceased.

Thought it had been discontinued in the mid-'90s...

My real point was the irony (to me) of the symbol of another "religion of peace" is still unthinkingly used to glorify war...
