BBC: What are you not allowed to say?

BBC News - What are you not allowed to say?

"Howard Flight and Lord Young have joined a long list of people who have realised that there are some things you can't say. So when and why is an utterance likely to get you in trouble? We have come to learn as either public or private individuals that there are certain situations that mean careful self-censorship is required.
For all the talk of freedom of speech in liberal democracies, poorly chosen comments can end careers, lead to arrest, or just cause offence and embarrassment. So what are the unwritten rules and regulations of speech?"

What are the BBC up to here?

Re: BBC: What are you not allowed to say?

In essence the BBC give the veneer of free speech but do nothing of the sort. They are so frightened of breaking their impartiality rules that they generally churn out middle of the road vapid trash with a left wing slant to the public(ie socialism is basically good, that religion is bad for you and the monarchy is absurd) . Any opinion that steers away from the liberal agenda they have set out is dismissed as extreme. They are over the top in their support of multiculturalism and another darling of the left - climate change. Wasnt it a BBC executive that said the organisation was "hideously white"? have you ever heard the BBC staunchly advocate traditionaly lifelong marraige?

The problem as well with the BBC is that it is too powerful. The BBC is so powerful that it has now even succeeded in converting the Conservative Party to its point of view, and rewards it with increasingly extensive and sympathetic coverage.

The BBC needs to be privatised and its spending reigned in. Only then will we be able to see if they will sink or swim in the real world

Indeed it was, Greg Dyke no less, former Director General of the BBC.

I didn't realise that this was a requirement.

However, I guess you must have missed the programme from last night - 'Lifelong marriage - How We, The BBC, staunchly advocate it'.

You should be able to see it again on I-Player.

Which would spell the end of impartial professional jounalism in this country.
The BBC is one of the greatest British institutions, like the Monarchy and our great palace of Westminster. Long may it continue. Keep your filthy fascist leaning hands off it.

Unfortunately DaveUK the BBC is anything but impartial. It has had left-leanings for many years and I find that disappointing. I say that as I would wish it WAS truly impartial!

Nick Robinson and Laura Kuenssberg, perhaps the two most important political correspondents for the BBC News Channel are anything but left leaning. Not to mention the presenters of Top Gear and Countryfile.
So unproductive has conservatism been in producing a general conception of how a social order is maintained that its modern votaries, in trying to construct a theoretical foundation, invariably find themselves appealing almost exclusively to authors who regarded themselves as liberal. - F.A. While not wishing to 'label' the correspondents you mention, the answer is that the good ones are astute enough to vary their opinions and leanings to reflect public opinion!
