NIck Clegg should do whats in the country's interest as a whole, considering the **** we're in, cuts are needed,if you want to see what will happen if we don't then look at Ireland. Students need to learn they are not the blessed ones and why should they be protected. If this mess isn't sorted out they will
    pay for it
Just because i'm paranoid, doesn't mean their not after me!!!

Clegg won't change his mind, unless Cameron tells him to. Clegg may be the leader of a political party, but he's the leader of a party in a coalition power sharing deal, where Cleggs party are the minority. Therefore, he'll do as he's told.
I predict that about 18 months before the next election, Cameron will start a purge on the Lib Dems, sacking them from cabinet jobs, pointing out and exploiting differences, in the hope of winning a tory majority next time.
Don't expect any movement on tuition fees from the tories either. They traditionally oppose state funded education.

if you want to see what will happen if we don't then look at Ireland.

Indeed we should look to Ireland. The mess they are in is a result of making cuts too deep and too soon, just as the tories are doing now in this country. By adopting the same policy as the tories are implimenting now, they halted growth and fueled unemployment, now they are headed for a double dose of the same sh** we are in now, and we're headed down the same road, to a double resession.

I am at a loss to understand what the hell is going on here. My son has been at UNI for the past 3 years and as ball park figure it cost me about 10K a year .I am prepared to pay that in the hope that he will have a future in front of him.I get(or he gets) his tuition fees on a loan that he has to pay back,Ok fair enough,he does a bit of part time work to pay for his socialising, good. Why in gods name are the students protesting?

Oh DaveUK, that is a load of crap. Ireland has one huge problem; an anchor if you will. The Euro. The Euro is Irelands biggest problem at the moment.

Ireland will need bailing out and historically countries would call in the IMF. There are several things the IMF will tell you to do such as slashing spending to an unbelievable degree... Ireland is doing that.

The IMF will also tell the country to devalue its currency to ensure the economy maintains competitiveness - Ireland cannot do that. Because of the Euro Ireland cannot devalue its currency and thus its economy is uncompetitive.

The problem isn't the cuts; they are necessary, the problem is the Euro - the deadly nature of a single currency shows itself.

Partly true. But the toxic banks are Ireland's biggest problem at the moment. The government gave a blanket guarantee to cover all bondholders on banks that together were bigger than the state. If the banks, or at least the bad ones Anglo Irish and Allied Irish, were allowed to fail two years ago then the country would not be in the hole it is in at the moment.

The currency was part of the problem which lead to a property boom as interest rates were far too low. Now the currency is posing difficulties again, this time as you say, the inability to devalue....especially as Ireland is an exporting nation.

Not at all. The Euro is a far worse problem in my view, it helped cause Irelands problems and is preventing Ireland resolving them - they should withdraw.
