The U.S. Import-Export Bank, which is an independent federal agency that I've never heard of, loaned $1 billion dollars to the Mexican state oil company last year. They have another $1 billion to loan that is awaiting Congressional approval. The purpose of the loans is to help fund Pemex's drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

According to CNSNews, the U.S. federal government has loaned $8.3 billion to Pemex since 1998.

Is it just me, or does loaning money to a foreign company so we can import and pay for their oil, instead of loaning it to U.S. companies, which would help build our economy, make absolutely no sense?
