The government may owe you money!

I have just received a letter from the Pensions service telling me that I may have been underpaid my RP for the past 3 years. It seems that their new NI computer did not "talk" to the Child Benefit computer so all details of entitlement to credits during the years that I received child benefit are missing and this is the case for every woman who had children since 1978 and who started receiving RP after the new NI computer upgrade. Imagine the cost in sending out all of these letters then checking the form I had to fill in and paying any money owed.

Now why don't reports like this surprise me in the slightest, especially when the problems originate from systems installed by the Labour government! Goodness only knows how people could have been both so spendthrift with taxpayer's money and so incompetent, and I wonder what the total cost of wasted money and artificially created job schemes to support them has been - on second thoughts perhaps I don't want to know.

But problems like this - thanks for letting us know Suffolklass - coming on top of the other major Inland Revenue computer systems failure currently in the news, and the reports of the colossal waste of money in the NHS, below, cast grave doubts on the competence of whole swathes of public services personnel.
    • Labour’s abandoned NHS computer blunders cost 26bn; and are still rising according to an NHS Direct report - Jan 2010.
    • The NHS spends up to 86m a year on thousands of websites that are difficult to find, confusing for patients and which do not meet their needs, according to research commissioned for a Department of Health report - Aug 2010.
How much more have we wasted and how many more problems are there to yet see the light of day?

The other surprising thing is that I have not seen or heard anything in the news about this. Why not? What other blunders are being kept under wraps and why haven't the tabloids caught hold of it?
